The Technological University of Pereira (Spanish: Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira), is a public, national, coeducational, research university based in the city of Pereira, Risaralda, Colombia.
Among his most important races, standing and in the process, are: Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering and Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, BA in Spanish and Literature, BA in Philosophy, BA in English Language, Bachelor of Communication and Computer Education , BA in Child Pedagogy, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Sports Science and Recreation and Environmental Management.
It is located in the municipality of Pereira (Risaralda), an intermediate city of Colombia, with an estimated population in the metropolitan area (Dosquebradas, Pereira and La Virginia) to 800,000. The university is located in the southeast of the city, the citadel University "La Julita."
Founded in 1958, according to Law 41, at the initiative of a group of people who wanted to supplement the agricultural vocation of the region in scientific and technological development. Through Act 41 of 1958, establishing the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira as the highest cultural expression and heritage of the region and as a sectional institution official. Subsequently enacted as an establishment of an academic at the national, a legal entity with administrative autonomy and independent assets under the Ministry of Education.
The University started work on March 4, 1961 under the leadership of its founder and first Director Dr. Jorge Roa Martinez. With the momentum and the efforts of all his estates the institution begins to develop academic programs that make it worthy of a great prestige in the regional and national level.
With the Faculty of Electrical Engineering academic activity begins at the University and the following year created the Schools of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. In 1965 he founded the Musical Pedagogical Institute of Fine Arts as a unit of cultural activities. By Act 61 of 1963 establishing the Polytechnic University, whose work began in 1966 with Assistant School of Engineering: Electrical, Mechanical and Industrial, now Faculty of Technology, and the programs in Electrical Technology, Mechanical and Industrial in 1968 Schools begin Drafting and Chemical Laboratory. (The latter now converted into a School of Chemistry)
In 1967 he founded the Faculty of Education, in order to professionalize and train teachers of other levels of the education sector, with the programs of Bachelor of Social Science, Spanish and Audiovisual Communication and Mathematics and Physics in 1977 establishing the Faculty of Medicine, to meet the needs of the region in health.
In 1981 he became the Musical Pedagogical Institute of Fine Arts in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Humanities, as a response to cultural and artistic aspirations of the community, offering the Bachelor in Fine Arts and Music.
In 1984 following the implementation of Decree Law 80 of 1980, approved a new organizational structure for the university that gives rise to the Faculty of Basic Sciences and the Faculty of Technology. The latter formerly known as Polytechnic University.
In 1983 attached to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering establishing the Masters Program in Automated Production Systems with the overall objective to produce graduates with ability to perform in the field of automated production, and to participate actively and scientific approach from that field in the development of industry and community.
In 1984 he established the Graduate School of Industrial Engineering Faculty of the MBA programs of Economic and Financial and Operations Research and Statistics in order to offer solid professional training in administrative, economic and financial to provide it decision making in business management and exploitation of new opportunities
In 1988 he created the pre-degree in philosophy attached to the Faculty of Fine Arts and Humanities with the aim of developing a cadre of professionals who encourage thinking in different cultural processes. Taking an anthropocentric conception of what is culture.
In 1989 he created the program of Sports Science and Recreation attached to the Faculty of Medicine, with the aim of training professionals in Sport and Recreation able to bring sports and recreational activities at different stages of human development, leadership programs and personal care projects and group in the field of sport and recreation in the middle.
In 1991 at the Faculty of Basic Sciences Programme is created and Computer Systems Engineering with the overall objective to produce graduates with sound knowledge and research skills in various areas of development in Systems and Computer Science, with administrative capacity for TMP.
In 1991 he created the School of Environmental Sciences with an undergraduate in Environmental Management which seeks to train professionals who are able to manage technical and scientific environment, the potential supply of biophysical resources in the area on a different scale, generating new approaches that promote the rise in the quality of life in a process of rational and sustainable development.
In 1993 at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering establishing the Specialization Program in Human Development Management with the aim of training professional leaders in the processes of human development in the business and institutional fully trained personnel to administer any type of organization.
In 1994 assigned to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering created the following programs: Master in Electrical Engineering with the aim of training professionals with managerial skills, aware of the importance that energy poses to the development of different economic sectors (industry, agricultural, commercial, official, etc..) and promoter of alternative technologies which foster the conservation and use of this and the specialization in Power Electronics with the aims to train professionals capable of designing or modifying power converters are devices solid state and to implement control techniques in the operation thereof.
In the same year in the Faculty of Education establishing the undergraduate degree in Ethnic Education and Community Development with the following objective: To form a professional to guide education, research and teaching carried out in marginal urban and rural communities.
The Faculty of Educational Sciences in the year 1995 makes opening: Specialization Program in Contemporary History of Colombia and regional development, with the overall objective: Join historians and researchers in the fields of national history teachers and researchers in field of the history of Colombia with emphasis on issues relevant to the teaching of contemporary history of Colombia. Reopening of Science degree in Technical Areas, which aims to: Develop in the student educational experiences which enable a facilitator and guiding the learning of technical areas.
Also in the year 1995 medical school created the program specialization in Health Systems Management with the objective of training professionals in the design, development and management of health systems, including all levels and components institutions.

This DePencier of the Technological University of Pereira is headed by the Vice-Rector of Research, Innovation and Outreach, which is an academic and administrative unit responsible to accelerate the process of integrating teaching with research and social projection. To do this you must create and maintain a work environment conducive to academic teachers and students develop their research capabilities and generate and disseminate the knowledge acquired during the research process through teaching. The library began its work in 1962, the year of 1977 took the name CENTRE LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE; had a collection of 14,000 volumes and 621 periodical titles. Their internal organization was divided as follows:
1. Public Services Section: created by resolution No. 002 of the Higher Council of the PTU (1974) and consists of: a. Section circulation and loan b. Reference Section c. Newspaper Archive d. Control and surveillance.
2. Technical Processes Section: created by agreement No. 005 (February 22, 1971) Superior Council, this section was divided as follows: a. Cataloging and Classification Section b. Exchange and Gift Section c. Center West Central Cooperative cataloging
3. Archives and Records Section: Created based on the need to optimize the operation of their files through the systematization. It was created by decision No. 013 (April 29, 1976) the Supreme Council, composed of:

In 1995 the library moved to its new building and changed its name to LIBRARY MARTINEZ JORGE ROA by agreement 023 (July 26, 1995) the Supreme Council, is now one of the best libraries in the country also has a Full online catalog for students of the Technological University of Pereira.

The University Pereira Technology Has High Quality Accreditation by Resolution No. 2550 June 30, 2005 by which this distinction is awarded to the first university in the region to be recognized for their excellence, which makes it one of the 10 best universities in the country, one of the top 100 Latin American 2000 and one of the best in the world.
